Sonacella Privacy Policy
Last updated:
1. About this policy
This policy explains how Sonacella (formerly Jazz; Android package io.github.miphorez.sonacella) handles information when you listen to radio, play MP3 files, manage playlists, or use public Google Drive links. Sonacella is an independent player and is not operated by the stations or Google. Sonacella is maintained by miphorez; the privacy and support contact is provided at the end of this policy.
Sonacella does not require an account. The app has no developer-operated playback server, analytics SDK, advertising SDK, or automatic crash-report upload service. Listening requests go directly from your device to the sources you choose.
2. Information stored on your device
Station catalogs can also store optional official website links, artwork URLs and plain-text station descriptions, station-specific listening conditions and provider-terms links. These card fields are included when you export your station list.
To provide playback and remember your choices, Sonacella stores station names and addresses, playlist names and track references, track titles and durations, chapter timings, public Drive file and folder references, playback positions, the selected source, Shuffle and automatic-switching settings, and phrases you enter as switching conditions. Previously resolved radio addresses may be retained for connection recovery. Optional YouTube video identifiers, source titles, channel details and descriptions imported from timing files are also stored with your tracks.
This information is stored in the app's private Android storage. Sonacella does not send your saved library, playback positions, or switching phrases to the developer. The app does not create a persistent audio-download cache for offline radio or remote MP3 playback; audio is buffered while playing. URLs may include access tokens or resource keys, so treat exported station lists and source links as potentially sensitive.
3. Files and document providers
When you choose local MP3 files, timing files, or station-list files through Android's document picker, Sonacella reads the selected content and relevant file metadata to play audio, create chapters, or import stations. It may retain read permission to selected documents so they remain available after restarting. It does not scan your entire storage or upload your local audio files to the developer.
Sonacella normally saves references and parsed metadata rather than copying the original audio file. A document provider you select, such as a cloud-storage app, may access its own servers to supply a file under its own privacy policy. Exporting a station list writes the station names and addresses to the destination you choose; that destination may be a cloud provider.
4. Network requests and third-party recipients
The standard release checks Google Play for updates when opened. Google processes the app and connection information needed to determine whether an update is available to your account and device. Choosing Update opens the app page in Google Play. No saved library or listening history is sent by Sonacella for this check. Dismissed-version identifiers and reminder times are stored locally. Lab and debug builds do not check the public release channel.
Opening a radio station card can request its artwork directly from the HTTPS image host supplied in your catalog. That provider receives the image address, your public IP address and normal connection information. Station artwork uses a limited shared memory-only cache and is not preloaded on import. Open website and Provider terms pass their supplied addresses to another app or browser, which handles them under its own privacy policy.
Starting or recovering radio playback contacts the station, playlist host, streaming host, and any servers to which that source redirects the request. Checking an online link, streaming a remote MP3, or reading online timing files likewise contacts the relevant provider. Checks can occur before playback when you add or edit a link or import or refresh a Drive folder.
As part of these requests, the provider receives your public IP address, the requested address or file identifier, request timing, and normal connection information such as user-agent and audio byte-range headers. A provider may use IP addresses to infer approximate location or process requests for delivery, security, usage measurement, licensing, or advertising under its own policies. Sonacella does not request Android location permission or calculate your location itself.
The default catalog contains SmoothJazz.com Global and 1001 Classic Collection. SmoothJazz.com Global uses its streaming infrastructure, including CDNStream; see https://www.smoothjazz.com/privacy-policy. 1001 Classic Collection is part of Radio Suite Network and uses TorontoCast/OpenStream delivery; its official website is https://radiosuitenetwork.torontocast.stream/1001-classic-collection/. Opening their cards can contact their respective website image hosts. Other stations and hosts are determined by the sources you add. Their processing and retention are controlled by those providers; Sonacella does not promise that they collect no data or that their practices are identical.
Opening a YouTube source card can request its thumbnail directly from Google's YouTube image infrastructure at i.ytimg.com. Google receives the requested image address, your public IP address and normal connection information. Thumbnails use a limited memory-only cache and are not preloaded when importing a playlist. The card uses saved timing-file metadata rather than the YouTube Data API, and does not embed or autoplay a video. Open in YouTube passes the video address and chapter start time to another app or browser, which handles it under its own privacy policy. See https://policies.google.com/privacy for Google's policy.
5. Public Google Drive links
Google Drive is optional. Sonacella uses Google's Drive API and download infrastructure to retrieve metadata, folder contents, MP3 audio, and supported timing files for public links you supply. Requests include relevant file or folder identifiers and, where needed, resource keys. Sonacella also sends its developer API key, Android package name, and app signing-certificate fingerprint to Google to identify the app. These app credentials do not identify your personal Google account.
Sonacella does not ask you to sign in to Google, request access to your private Drive, or obtain your Google password or an account access token. The app does not change file-sharing permissions or upload, edit, or delete Drive files. Google processes connection and request information under its policies: https://policies.google.com/privacy. Only share links that you are entitled to use; making a file public can expose it beyond this app.
6. Advertising and automatic switching
Sonacella does not serve its own banner advertisements, use an advertising identifier, or sell your listening history. A radio station can include advertising in its stream and can use its own streaming or advertising providers. Those requests are part of the third-party connections described above.
Optional automatic station switching compares station-supplied titles with phrases you configure on your device. It does not send those phrases to a recognition service, record audio for analysis, or analyse vocals. Switching connects to another station, which receives a new request.
7. Diagnostics and contacting the developer
Sonacella can write playback states, error codes, station identifiers, and station-supplied titles to Android's system diagnostic log. The app does not automatically upload these logs. Log access and retention are managed by Android and the device. If you choose to share logs or a bug report, review them first and remove information you do not want to disclose.
If you contact the developer, the contact details and message or attachments you provide are used to answer your inquiry and resolve the issue. Please do not send passwords, API keys, private sharing links, or audio files unless they are necessary and you are entitled to share them. The mail or support service you use processes that communication under its own policy.
8. Permissions and security
Internet and network-state access support streaming and reconnection. Foreground media-playback service and wake-lock permissions support playback with the screen off. Android's media controls can display the current station or track on the notification and lock screen. The app does not request contacts, microphone, camera, location, or broad media-library access.
Sonacella requires HTTPS for its online sources and does not enable cleartext network traffic. App-managed settings and libraries are stored in private app storage, and Android app backup is disabled in the app manifest. These measures do not make any device or Internet service completely secure. Protect your device and avoid source addresses containing credentials you do not want to disclose to that provider.
9. Retention and deletion
Saved library references and settings remain on your device to support later use. You can remove tracks or playlists, replace the station catalog, and clear switching conditions using the app. Removing an entry or playlist does not delete the underlying audio file; playback checkpoints or other preferences can remain until app storage is cleared. Unused persistent document permissions are released where supported.
To remove all app-managed saved data, use Android Settings to clear Sonacella's app storage or uninstall the app. This does not delete original audio files, exported station lists, provider records, or copies you have shared elsewhere. Manage those files and records with the relevant destination or provider. The developer has no server copy of your in-app library to delete.
Support correspondence is kept only as long as needed to address your inquiry and meet applicable legal obligations. You can request its deletion through the privacy contact below, subject to any retention required by law. Third-party providers control their own retention and deletion procedures.
10. Your choices and privacy questions
You can use local MP3 files without network access, avoid optional Drive or remote sources, stop playback, revoke document access through Android or the provider, and clear app storage. Stop closes the live radio connection and cancels playback recovery; checks you start separately, such as a link or folder check, have their own Cancel control.
Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, or request deletion of personal information you have provided to the developer. Contact the privacy address below for these requests, including questions about information supplied by a child. Requests about a streaming provider's records should also be directed to that provider. Sonacella does not create user accounts or child profiles.
11. Changes to this policy
This policy will be updated when Sonacella's data handling changes. The last-updated date identifies the version bundled with the app. Review the current policy when installing an update or before using a newly introduced online feature.
